About Us

RussGardinerYou enjoy drinking fine wine, but how much more remarkable would it be if you were an equity member of the winery that produced the wine you were savoring?

Set against the amazing backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Keowee, the Equus Club & Winery will be a retreat within a retreat featuring fine wines, friendly faces and Southern hospitality.

The Equus Club & Winery will be initially established by 500 equity members. Each and every equity member will be part of this fully financed and debt free world-class winery and club featuring a management team of some of the most respected winemakers and wine industry professionals in the United States.

The Equus Club & Winery will be located on the west side of Lake Keowee adjacent to the Cliffs of Keowee Falls in Salem, South Carolina. Our mission at the Equus Club & Winery is to assemble an “all-star” team of winemakers to make the best wine in the South and create an extraordinary social experience for our members.

We will annually source nearly $1,000,000 worth of the best grapes from prestigious vineyards in the Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Monterey wine regions and then transport the crushed juice to our winery at Lake Keowee. Here our winemakers, in our newly designed state-of-the-art Equus Winery, will craft world class wines with and for our members.

In our first year of operation, The Equus Winery will produce 15,000 cases (180,000 bottles) of wine, making it the largest winery in South Carolina, as well as one of the largest and best wineries in the South. We will also be working in conjunction with Dr. Seth Cohen, Director of the Appalachian State Viticulture Department, in planting vineyards at our Equus Club & Winery property. We plan on eventually blending these grapes with the California grapes to produce innovative wines for our members.

Please contact me if you would like to place your name on our reservation list for membership, or if you would like to schedule a visit to the property to see and hear about the Equus Club & Winery project firsthand.

There is no financial commitment or paperwork to sign at this time, yet only the first 500 individuals who have completed the letter of interest form are guaranteed a membership when we officially open up the membership drive on December 1, 2015.

Wine, Food, and Art

If you look back to the Greeks and Romans, they spoke about wine, food, music and art as the fundamental cornerstones for enhancing one’s life.

We are very pleased to announce the Equus Club & Winery will feature a Culinary Center with an exceptional “team of chefs” that will conduct weekly cooking classes in our professional teaching kitchen for you to learn to cook like a pro from a pro.  Great cooking isn’t all about recipes – it’s also about techniques.  We will show you how to create delicious dishes all year long.  From Thai to North Carolina barbecue, you can explore the world of cuisines and disciplines.  Learn, Eat, Laugh….and we’ll take care of the dishes.

Additionally, each member will be invited to attend four amazing winemaker dinners each year featuring some of the finest wines in the world and a menu prepared by noted chefs from across the South.

Our winemaking staff will also conduct weekly educational sessions in the vineyards and cellar, and our members can enjoy the experience of a lifetime by participating in wine blending classes and then creating their very own personalized meritage wine.

An art gallery will be constructed in the middle of a 30 acre sculpture and botanical garden. Renowned and emerging artists in the South will be selected to participate in our artist-in-residence program, as well as to create special gallery showings for our members.

Music & Entertainment

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said “Music is the universal language” and every Equus Club food and wine event will feature fine musical performances as the perfect complement.

On six summer Saturday evenings from May through September we will present the Equus Summer Concert Series featuring contemporary smooth jazz as well as other musical genres performed by internationally renowned artists.  Mingle with the performers before the concert and then enjoy food, wine and music under the stars!

We will have themed parties throughout the year starting with our annual Kentucky Derby Party, then the Carolina BBQ Cook-off, the Paella & Pinot Party, and the Jackson Pollack Painting Party that will be a fundraiser for local charities.

Our equestrian facilities at the Equus Club & Winery will include a 12-horse stable with a clubroom and a 20,000 square foot covered riding arena suitable for jumper and dressage practice. We will also maintain acres of beautiful horse pastures and riding trails for every level of rider to enjoy.
